Things I don’t like about our Indian society

In the race to become modern, while being traditional at heart, I think we, Indians, have become hypocrites. Everyone wants to stay updated with the trends, but also everyone modifies them to suit them! And this is how hypocrisy gets embedded in our day-to-day lives.

Everyone wants a change, but no one wants to change.

As I grew up, I came across multiple scenarios which completely contradicted what I was preached. And what I got as reasons, mostly, “ after all we have to live in this society only na”, or, “ye sab cheezein TV me hi achi lgti hain”.

Starting with the most common scenario for girls which I don’t know how long will take to change.

  1. All their lives, girls are told to keep a distance from boys and not to get frank with them, and one day, they are asked to spend their whole life with a stranger, just a piece of paper(marriage certificate) being the reason.

2. Every parent wants their children to become Doctors/Engineers/IAS. If a child wants to take arts as a subject in school, he is looked upon as if he is a failure. But for every event, we search for the best photographer, best caterers, best decorators, and what not!

3. When will people realize that whether it’s a crop top or a saree blouse, both are doing the same job. Skin reveal is the same in both scenarios. Still, saree is accepted by our aunties but crop top not.

4. This is the funniest one by the parents. When it comes to taking responsibility, their children are grown up and mature enough, and when it comes to making decisions for their own life, they are kids and they know nothing! I mean, why can’t you decide.

5. In most families, girls have a restriction to come home before it gets dark. I get it. Considering the crime rate in India, parents do it because they care for them. But then, how can you be ok when your daughter goes abroad on her honeymoon with a stranger just after marriage.

Well, these are a few of the incidents I came across around me. There are a lot more. There is certainly a dire need for change also. But as we say, everyone wants a change, but no one wants to change!
